The Season

You want the summer, properly. A motor yacht in the forty five to sixty metre range, a home berth within an hour of the airport, the same anchorages in a different order each August, and a crew who know how your family takes its coffee. The boat is not an adventure; it is the place the year happens.

What works about it

This is the most reliable good ownership there is. The infrastructure exists, the crew market is deep, the resale is liquid and everybody in the supply chain understands the programme. You will get more actual use out of the boat than owners with more ambitious plans.

What to watch

Two risks. The first is the berth: decide where she lives before you buy, because on this coast the boat follows the berth rather than the other way round. The second is boredom by year four, which is what drives owners to buy longer boats when what they actually needed was a different coast. Corsica, Sardinia and the Ionian are all within a night of the Riviera.
