Dubrovnik & Montenegro

Walls, fjords and a new marina

Dubrovnik & Montenegro

Dubrovnik’s walls, the islands of the Elaphiti, and across the border the Bay of Kotor, the only fjord in the Mediterranean, with a marina built for the largest yachts in the world.

Southern Adriatic, Croatia and Montenegro

Dubrovnik is one of the great walled cities and in high season one of the most crowded. We work around the cruise ship schedule, walk the walls at seven in the morning and spend the middle of the day on the water, where the Elaphiti islands and Mljet are an hour away and largely empty.

Montenegro, an hour south, is the Adriatic’s new coast: no VAT on charter, a marina at Porto Montenegro that berths 250-metre yachts, and the Bay of Kotor, which looks like Norway with olive trees. Houses on the Luštica peninsula are new and very well built.

A charter that starts in Dubrovnik and ends in Tivat, or the reverse, is one of the best weeks in the Mediterranean and one of the least expensive.
