The Maldives are one hotel per island, so the choice of resort is the whole trip. We know fifteen of them well and can say which has the best house reef, which has a children’s club worth the name, which has the kitchen, and which has the private island residence with its own staff that feels like a villa rather than a hotel.
The water is the point: the clearest and warmest in the world, a reef at the end of every jetty, whale sharks and mantas in the right atolls at the right months. A week here is slow, and it should be.
For members who want a boat, a crewed yacht or a converted dhoni for a week between the atolls is the best way to see the islands that have no hotels on them.
