Monaco & Cap Ferrat

The principality

Monaco & Cap Ferrat

Two square kilometres that run on precision. The best base on the coast for a yacht, a race weekend or a season of dinners, with Cap Ferrat next door for the quiet.

Côte d’Azur, Monaco and France

Monaco works because everything is close and everything has been done before. A helicopter lands you seven minutes after leaving Nice, a driver takes you the four hundred metres you cannot walk in heels, and the maître d’ has your table because he has had it since March. What the principality does not do well is spontaneity in May and September, so those are the months we plan earliest.

Cap Ferrat, twenty minutes west, is the antidote: pine, stone walls, coves you reach on foot, and houses that are still houses rather than residences. We use it for families who want Monaco available but not audible.

On the water this is the best base in the western Mediterranean. Port Hercule and Fontvieille berth everything to 130 metres, the coast to Saint-Tropez is a day’s cruise, and Corsica is an overnight.
